and Welcome to Quilts and Sew On!
My
name is Carol Williams. My grandmother taught me to sew over
40 years ago. I learned tailoring, dressmaking, and home décor.
In 1982, I made my first quilt and was hooked. At first, I
was an avid hand quilter, but I could not keep up with the
stash of tops that I was accumulating. I began machine quilting,
first on my Bernina, in 1996. I now quilt on a Nolting Pro
24. I still hand quilt on occasion. I have attended classes
taught by renowned, professional longarm quilters such as
Marcia Stevens, Kathy Olson, Pam Clarke, Karen McTavish, and
Linda V. Taylor.
A
full-time instructional specialist, I am the founder of Uhuru
Quilters Guild, a founding member of the Mid-Atlantic
Professional Machine Quilters Guild (MAPMQG) and a member
of the International Machine Quilters Association (IMQA).
I have won two Honorable Mention ribbons at the Sotterley
Plantation Quilt Show (1996) and both Blue and Red Ribbons
at the Prince George’s County Fair (2003).
I love the look of handquilting, but I love finished quilts
more!
